Indian Artist
Let’s meet the artist behind CoLore.
We’re going to interview Kavin Patani who is a tremendous fine artist from Mumbai Graduated from L.S Raheja School of Arts and definitely has an eye for art. She wanted to make art reachable to anyone with small to anything customizable products with designs that hint at our roots of traditional art along with a spice of modern touch. Kavin is working since a decade and making our lives beautiful with such gorgeous artworks.
She is smart, beautiful, little shy and amazingly talented.
Let’s find out more about her and her journey towards the path of art.
When and how did you start? describe your artistic path.
Being an artist had always been a childhood dream of mine. I would go back to my pencils and drawing book and copy the images from newspapers and just draw for hours on end, especially during the summers. Always being a shy one, I would be stuck to one corner, quiet and just observe and absorb the surroundings. I just loved how many expressions and emotions can be displayed on a person's face. It always overwhelms me how much a person can feel and express if they want to or not. I loved, and still do, to capture those emotions, especially when shown through the eyes. Them being my favorite part of a human face to draw. I would be so fascinated by it that I would always end up either drawing it the first or save it to the last to give it my most attention. Seeing my keen liking to paint, I was pushed to create some works by school teachers to test me and conclude that I should pursue Fine Arts and with the support of my family, I have been able to do just that, follow my childhood dream.
Could you give us some insight into your creative universe?
My creative universe revolves around nature. Just observe and be inspired by everything going around us. I always find myself going back to the roots of it. Be it to create new designs or just sketch for practice. I would either be practicing anatomy, faces, expressions or creating designs with the baseline of traditional art. filling them up with colors and color schemes inspired from nature. Color schemes of nature are so unique that it is fascinating and surprising to know that two totally different tonal valued colors could merge so well together to form a beautiful combination. Even the traditional art, be it anywhere around the world is inspired by nature and things going on around us. the themes, moods and of course, nature. Going back to the roots is what works for me to start and proceed with any idea, theme or just random sketches.
If you could sit down with any artist past or present, who would it be and why?
The most inspiring artist for me has been Leonardo Da Vinci His works are fascinating and just realistic with mad anatomy skills. His knowledge and study on anatomy is so extensive that even a simple smile or lack thereof, of Mona Lisa, has people fascinated for centuries and still be mesmerized and gobsmacked by it till today. The techniques used for paintings, the extensive study on anatomy just to create one expression is so amazing, that it would be an honour to learn everything and anything that I can to be better.
How do you approach your art?
Art is literally a way to express what we cannot speak or explain in words but it is also a beautiful way to transform the words into a masterpiece. It does not really have to be an exclusive piece of artwork every time, it can just be something that is simple and for beautification purpose, but it is the thoughts and expressions that count. Though it always leaves behind a peaceful feeling, a feeling of content.
What are the main challenges for artists today?
I feel that challenges that are faced today by artists have really gone down to minimum. We have such wide platforms to show our artworks on a global level, we have mediums to digitize artworks, we can connect to anyone all around the world and still not lose any element of our art just to be accepted. I feel it is quite easy to be accepted in today's times. Of course, going digital for hardcore fine artists is a little overwhelming but it is just like learning new medium or holding on to a different pencil and learning how to use it to our advantage slowly but surely. Today's social media coverage gives our artwork a chance to be accepted just the way they are and not be tweaked to someone's liking unless it is a commercial project. Every new technique, trend, medium or courses are so accessible that one can learn sitting in just one corner of the room. The value still lies in traditional forms of teaching but nothing can stop us or hinder our progress if it cannot be accessed for reasons unknown.
Kavin is good with creativity and understands the requirements of each client personally. We hope you know your artist better.
P.S: The sole process of creating the product is to for it to be as painted/handmade with art as possible.
